The understanding we draw from research is rooted in the fundamental validity and reliability of the data we produce. Integrity in Research® is more than our trademark, it’s our guiding principle – the essential first step in pursuit of our goal: Elevating information into intelligence.®
We undertake only research assignments that we are fully competent to execute at the level of excellence our clients expect.
We employ only survey methodologies that are appropriate to the project and adhere to foundational principles and best practices in our field.
We ask only questions that in our professional judgment will produce meaningful, unbiased results.
We constrain our analysis to conclusions that are supported by the data.
We comply with the Code of Professional Ethics and Practices of the American Association for Public Opinion Research, including its disclosure requirements.
Our familiarity with these principles is more than passing: We’ve been at the forefront of the standards and disclosure movement in survey research for many years. Our president, Gary Langer, established industry-leading survey reporting standards for ABC News in the late 1990s, served on the AAPOR committees that updated the association’s Code in 2009-10 and 2014, chaired the panel that rewrote the disclosure standards of the National Council of Public Polls in 2005-6 and, in 2018, lead-authored the transparency policy of the Roper Center for Public Opinion. For a recent summary, read Langer’s presentation on “Protecting the Integrity of Survey Research” at the 2023 conference of the World Association for Public Opinion Research.
We are a charter member of AAPOR’s Transparency Initiative, created to encourage disclosure of publicly released survey materials; see, for example, our disclosure of ABC News/Washington Post poll methodology here and sample dispositions here.
In contracting for data collection and data processing services we strive whenever possible to work with fellow Transparency Initiative members, in recognition of their commitment to transparency in research. We actively encourage other field work providers interested in partnering with Langer Research Associates to seek TI accreditation.
